All-Female Youth Flag Football League Launching in Albany, Registration Open
Registration is now open for an all-female recreational youth flag football league in the Capital Region.

ALBANY (April 9, 2024) – Registration is now open for an all-female recreational youth flag football league in the Capital Region.
Part of the national “Under the Lights” flag football program powered by sportswear company Under Armour, the Under the Lights Albany flag football league offers two all-girls divisions for grades 3-8, and four coed divisions, grades K-8.
“By introducing an all-female league, we aim to create a space where girls can thrive, build confidence and excel in the sport of football,” said Nick Bizzarro, president of Under the Lights Albany. “We are excited to bring the Under The Lights program to the Capital District and provide young athletes with a platform to showcase their talents, develop essential skills, and most importantly, have fun.”
Under The Lights offers boys and girls ages 5-14 the opportunity to participate in structured flag football leagues, emphasizing sportsmanship, character development, and fun. With a focus on building a strong foundation in the fundamentals of football, the program aims to cultivate a lifelong passion for the sport among participants.
The inaugural 2024 summer season of Under the Lights Albany has two sessions, running from May through June and from August through September, with games taking place at Affirms Sports Complex, 636 Albany Shaker Rd in Colonie.
The first session (May-June) is All-Female, while the second session is co-ed. Registration for Session 1 closes on April 27 at 5 p.m. Cost is $195.
Teams compete within six age divisions.

K-2nd Grade Coed Division (August - September)
3rd-4th Grade Coed Division (August - September)
5th-6th Grade Coed Division (August - September)

The initiative to introduce two all-female youth flag football divisions in Albany underscores Under Armour’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in sports, providing equal opportunities for all aspiring athletes, Bizzarro said.
